My Week With Ray Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Bromsgrove Practice Manager, David shares his hands-on experience with Ray Ban Meta and why they’re worth a look.
We are lucky to have the new Ray Ban META smart specs in Bromsgrove and I’ve finally got my prescription lenses into a pair so I can try them out. I first had to download the META AI app onto my phone ready to pair with the frames. Open the box, remove a tab and within a couple of minutes they were paired. It took me through a few easy steps and I was taking pictures and listening to music. Yes the new Ray Ban META smart glasses have several features.

So my new Ray Ban META smart glasses are all set up and paired with my phone. I went with Ray Ban META Wayfarer in “warm stone” with green light adaptive lenses. I had the green coloured lenses to give that authentic Ray Ban sunglass look when out in the sunshine. Plus it’s a relaxing neutral colour to look through.
Listening to music, audiobooks or podcasts is so simple. Most controls are simple taps on the right side of the frame.
One tap either plays or pauses.
Two taps it’s the next track.
Three taps and back to the previous track.
Easy to do. Sound is through speakers near my ears. Sound quality is excellent. I can hear my music, but still hear what’s happening around me. I’m not a fan of in the ear headphones, so this is much better and safer.
Ray Ban META smart glasses can also take 12mp pictures or videos! With a simple press of the button on the top of the right side and a picture is taken. Videos are just a press and hold for a second or so. Hands full? No problem! With a simply say “Hey META take a picture” a picture is taken. Yes Ray Ban META are that clever! They have built in AI through your phone connection. And it’ll do much more than take a picture. Being able to take pictures hands free was so useful while visiting my new grandson in Lytham recently.
So simple hands free photos by just saying “Hey META take a photo” Even if it’s just breakfast in The Queen’s Hotel Lytham. But META AI will do so much more. Ask a question like “Hey META what’s the tallest building in the world?” and within seconds you’ll have an answer!
So META AI is really useful, but it gets even better. You can for example ask “Hey META look, translate this text into English.” Now I’ve only tried this myself with some French text, but an incredibly useful feature.
By saying “Hey META look, what am I looking at?” as I did in Lytham it would answer you.
I got “You are currently looking at a windmill.”
I have my settings so that it’s Dame Judi Dench telling me. Well her voice. Not her. She’d be VERY busy answering all the questions. META AI can also read text. For example “Hey META what’s this poster? ”It would say something like “You appear to be looking at a poster for breakfast cereal” However if you ask “Hey META look, read the text on the poster” it will actually read out the text for you! It can also do this for text closer to you too.
So a nice relaxing walk around the Belbroughton area. Sun protection sorted with light adaptive lenses. Taking photos was a doddle – a simple press of the capture button, or a simple “Hey META take a picture.”
